Qatar Airways has made aviation history with a record-breaking order for up to 210 Boeing widebody aircraft. The landmark deal, announced on May 14, 2025, represents the largest widebody order in Boeing’s history and Qatar Airways’ largest-ever fleet purchase.

The ceremonial signing took place in Doha and was witnessed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar. This massive order will support approximately 400,000 jobs across the United States.

The comprehensive agreement includes firm orders for 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, with options for an additional 50 planes across both models. Ten of the Dreamliner orders were previously booked as unidentified customers.

“This is a critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “We’re not simply chasing scale; we’re building strength that will allow us to continue to deliver our unmatched products and customer experiences.”

The airline, which has been named World’s Best Airline by Skytrax an unprecedented eight times, currently operates more than 150 Boeing aircraft. With this new purchase, Qatar Airways will become the largest Dreamliner operator in the Middle East.

The 787 Dreamliner family delivers a 25% fuel-use improvement compared to aircraft it replaces, while the 777-9 is the world’s largest twin-engine airplane. Both aircraft types align with Qatar Airways’ environmental commitment, reducing fuel use and emissions by 25% compared to previous generation aircraft.

Alongside the aircraft order, Qatar Airways also announced a historic engine deal with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines. The agreement includes 60 GE9X and 260 GEnx engines, with additional options and spares, representing the largest widebody engine purchase in GE Aerospace’s history.

“These next-generation engines are critical components in our strategy to ensure our fleet remains modern and efficient,” Al-Meer added regarding the engine deal. “Qatar Airways has ambitious plans for the future, and we value our continued partnership with GE Aerospace.”

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope expressed gratitude for the order: “We are deeply honored that Qatar Airways has placed this record-breaking order with Boeing. Our team is looking forward to building 787s and 777s for Qatar Airways into the next decade.”

This historic fleet expansion follows two consecutive years of record-breaking commercial performance for Qatar Airways and positions the carrier for future growth across its network of more than 170 destinations worldwide.
