The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Saturday that the Bicol International Airport, Virac Airport, and Naga Airport have advanced their preparations with precautionary measures in place. Area Center 5 Manager Cynthia Tumanut reported 16 flight cancellations in the region.
“The CAAP is closely monitoring all airports that may be affected by Typhoon Pepito. The safety of our passengers and employees remains our top priority, which is why we are taking preventive measures and preparing in advance,” said CAAP Director General Capt. Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo.
In Eastern Visayas, Tacloban and Calbayog airports reported 30 canceled flights, affecting 1,410 passengers. Area Manager Dan Abareta confirmed that Borongan, Catarman, Guiuan, Maasin, Ormoc, and Hilongos airports remain operational despite experiencing cloudy and windy conditions with intermittent rainfall.
As of 1:00 PM, the Bicol Tower/Legazpi Approach Facility announced its closure, with Cebu Pacific flight 5J-325 and 5J-326 marked as the last operations for the day. All subsequent afternoon flights have been canceled.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has placed Catanduanes and northeastern portions of Camarines Sur under Signal No. 4, with typhoon-force winds expected to pose significant threats to life and property.
Laguindingan and Camiguin airports in Area Center 10 continue operations with no cancellations despite slightly cloudy weather with light rain, while Ozamiz Airport reports good weather conditions. All airports in Area Center 4 remain operational.
