National Airlines has announced plans to purchase four Boeing 777 Freighters, marking the carrier’s first direct order from the aerospace manufacturer. The commitment, revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, signals National’s intent to expand its global cargo operations.
Christopher Alf, chairman of National Airlines, said, “We are elated by this remarkable order of four Boeing 777 Freighters. This demonstrates our commitment to offering efficient, resourceful, and modern air freight services to support our global customers’ increasing transportation demands.”
The 777 Freighter is currently the longest-range twin-engine freighter in service. According to Boeing, it can fly up to 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and carry a payload of 107 tonnes. These capabilities allow operators to fly more nonstop routes with improved operating economics.
“We appreciate National Airlines for its trust in Boeing and the 777 Freighter to grow the carrier’s global fleet and deliver greater value for its customers,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The new freighters will join National Airlines’ existing fleet of nine Boeing 747-400 freighters. Boeing states that the 777 Freighter is designed to integrate with 747 operations, potentially streamlining ground logistics and offering cost savings through fleet commonality.
Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook predicts demand for 2,845 additional freighters over the next two decades, driven by growth in global trade and e-commerce.
The order has not yet been finalized. Moreover, the Florida-based company has not disclosed the expected delivery timeline for the new freighters or the financial terms of the deal.
