AirAsia to launch Kuala Lumpur-Chiang Rai route in November

Thrice-weekly flights to connect Malaysian capital with northern Thai destination, expanding AirAsia's regional network

AirAsia announced Thursday it will begin operating flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chiang Rai, Thailand, starting November 2, 2024.

The low-cost carrier will offer three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flights from Kuala Lumpur will depart at 12:25 p.m. local time, arriving in Chiang Rai at 2:15 p.m. Return flights will leave Chiang Rai at 2:45 p.m., landing in Kuala Lumpur at 6:55 p.m.

Chiang Rai, located in northern Thailand, is known for its cultural and natural attractions. Notable sites include the White Temple and Blue Temple, as well as the Golden Triangle and Tham Luang Cave. The region also offers scenic tea plantations and hiking trails.

To promote the new route, AirAsia is offering promotional fares for bookings made through June 30, 2024, for travel between November 2, 2024, and February 27, 2025.

This announcement comes days after AirAsia was named World’s Best Low-Cost Airline by Skytrax.

The carrier is also offering a 15% discount on base fares for flights to over 130 destinations for bookings made by June 30, 2024, with a travel period between July 8, 2024, and March 20, 2025.
