Japan’s Tokyo Fire Department placed a firm order for an additional Airbus H225 helicopter with Airbus Helicopters on Monday. The deal was finalized as part of the department’s efforts to modernize its helicopter fleet.
“For nearly six decades, Airbus has stood alongside the Tokyo Fire Department in their unwavering commitment to public safety and disaster response,” said Jean-Luc Alfonsi, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan.
According to Mr. Alfonsi, the department places great trust in the Airbus H225, citing its proven reliability and adaptability as the primary reasons for placing another firm order for the aircraft.
Airbus stated that the new H225 will be equipped with lifesaving equipment, such as onboard stretchers, to support emergency operations. Additionally, the manufacturer highlights its built-in search and rescue mode, which enables rapid target detection, along with a water tank for aerial firefighting capabilities.
In service since 1967, the Tokyo Fire Department operates a fleet that includes three Airbus H225s and three Eurocopter AS365 Dauphins.
A total of 24 H225 helicopters, operated by the Ministry of Defence and various parapublic agencies, are currently in use across Japan for roles such as search and rescue, aerial firefighting, VIP transport, and logistics.
