Delta Air Lines is expanding its Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) operations with two new nonstop routes launching in June 2026. The airline will begin daily service to Hong Kong on June 6, 2026, and three daily flights to Chicago O’Hare starting June 7, 2026.
“Launching service to Hong Kong and Chicago from LAX strengthens our presence in two of the world’s most dynamic markets,” said Paul Baldoni, SVP of Network Planning.
“As the largest global carrier at LAX, we’re continuing to invest in routes that matter to our customers and deliver the premium travel experience that they’ve come to expect from Delta.”
The Hong Kong route marks Delta’s return to the destination after a six-year hiatus. According to Aeroroutes.com, Delta last operated Hong Kong service until October 2018 with Seattle-Hong Kong flights. The airline previously served Los Angeles-Hong Kong between May 1991 and November 1995.
Delta’s new Hong Kong service will operate on the flagship Airbus A350-900 aircraft, offering four cabin classes: Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort, and Delta Main. The route provides access to more than 30 one-stop connections while strengthening Delta’s cargo operations with capacity for over 20 tons of freight per flight.
The Chicago O’Hare route will operate three times daily using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This service connects two major commercial hubs, providing business travelers quick access between LA’s entertainment and tech sectors and Chicago’s manufacturing and financial industries.
“As one of the world’s busiest airports, LAX is proud to welcome Delta’s new nonstop service to two critical global hubs, Hong Kong and Chicago,” said Doug Webster, Chief Operations and Maintenance Officer, Los Angeles World Airports.
“These routes not only enhance our trans-Pacific and domestic reach but also reflect the strength of our partnership with Delta in delivering world-class service to travelers across the Pacific and to key destinations throughout the United States.”
Delta One passengers to Hong Kong will have access to the new Delta One Lounge at LAX, featuring nearly 200 seats, chef-curated dining, a year-round sushi bar, and wellness amenities. Chicago-bound travelers can utilize the 22,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club at O’Hare’s Terminal 5.
These routes build on Delta’s position as LAX’s largest global carrier, operating more than 160 peak-day departures to over 50 destinations. The airline recently announced the return of Shanghai service and upcoming year-round Melbourne flights launching December 2025.
Delta’s $2.3 billion LAX transformation includes the modern Terminal 3 complex and Sky Way connector. With over 5,000 LAX employees, the airline supports more than 30 Southern California nonprofits and serves as an inaugural founding partner of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Reservations for the Hong Kong route are expected to open July 20, 2025.
