Boeing announced that its 787 Dreamliner fleet has surpassed 1 billion passengers, achieving this remarkable milestone faster than any widebody commercial airplane in history. The achievement comes in less than 14 years since the innovative aircraft first entered service in 2011.

The global fleet, now comprising more than 1,175 Dreamliners, has completed nearly 5 million flights covering over 30 million flight hours. This impressive performance highlights the aircraft’s exceptional reliability and popularity among airlines worldwide.

“This milestone would not have been possible without the trust and confidence of our customers in operating the 787, and we are incredibly grateful for each of them,” said Scott Stocker, Boeing 787 program vice president and general manager. Stocker emphasized that the Dreamliner family was designed to connect people and places in unprecedented ways.

The 787 has fundamentally transformed air travel through its combination of operational versatility, efficiency, and passenger comfort. Currently, the global Dreamliner fleet operates approximately 2,100 flights daily, carrying about 480,000 passengers each day and roughly 14.5 million people monthly.

With operations across more than 85 countries and 520+ airports, the Dreamliner has enabled over 425 new nonstop routes to destinations that were previously unserved. This route expansion capability has been a key factor in the aircraft’s commercial success.

The airplane’s efficiency comes from its innovative design, with the 787 family being 25% more fuel efficient than the aircraft it replaces. According to the planemaker, this efficiency stems from new engine technology, expanded use of lightweight composite materials, streamlined systems, and modern aerodynamics.

Boeing’s bestselling passenger widebody has garnered over 2,000 orders from 89 customers, demonstrating its strong market position. On average, each 787 spends more than 12 hours per day in the air, showcasing both high demand and exceptional reliability.

To commemorate this historic achievement, Boeing has released a special video celebrating the passengers, partners, and people behind the Dreamliner’s success. The company is also inviting everyone connected to the 787 to share their memories on social media using #Dreamliner.

From operating the world’s longest nonstop route between London and Perth (7,829 nautical miles) to the shortest between Aruba and Curaçao (just 65 nautical miles), the 787 Dreamliner continues to demonstrate unparalleled versatility in commercial aviation.
