Philippine Airlines confirmed that its flight PR-102, originally bound for Los Angeles from Manila, was diverted to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport (HND) early on April 10. The diversion occurred following initial findings of smoke emanating from one of the aircraft’s two air conditioning units.
The flight, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER registered as RP-C7782, departed Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) around 10:39 PM PHT on April 9, according to FlightRadar24.com data. It landed safely at Haneda Airport at approximately 3:30 AM Japan Standard Time (JST) on April 10.
Initially, the 359 passengers and 18 crew members remained onboard after landing. Philippine Airlines stated they worked closely with airport authorities to secure a gate. All passengers and crew subsequently disembarked safely.
PAL’s ground team at Haneda is assisting affected passengers with meals, baggage claims, and arranging alternative flights to Los Angeles. The airline emphasized that safety is its top priority and it is cooperating fully with Japanese airport and aviation authorities, while also coordinating with the Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Further updates are expected as more information becomes available regarding the incident and passenger re-accommodation.
