ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group have announced the integration of their respective route networks through an extensive codeshare agreement, creating seamless connectivity for passengers across their combined European services.

Starting with the summer 2025 schedule on March 30, customers of both airlines can book from more than 100 new codeshare connections, marking a significant milestone in ITA Airways’ integration with the Lufthansa Group following the German carrier’s acquisition of a 41% stake in the Italian flag carrier.

“ITA Airways is now an integral part of the offering for our joint passengers,” said Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. “With just one booking, a customer of the Lufthansa Group can use ITA Airways’ synchronized connecting flights with its airline’s flight numbers.”

The new agreement will allow passengers to travel on multiple airlines with a single ticket, check baggage through to their final destination, and enjoy the benefits of either the Miles & More or Volare loyalty programs across all codeshare flights.

For Lufthansa Group customers, the partnership opens access to new Italian destinations including Alghero in Sardinia, Pantelleria in Sicily, and Reggio di Calabria, as selected ITA Airways flights will operate under Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, or Brussels Airlines flight numbers.

The initial codeshare agreement covers year-round domestic Italian connections from Rome-Fiumicino and international routes from Rome to Malta, Athens, Sofia, and Tirana, as well as flights between Italy and Lufthansa Group hubs.

ITA Airways passengers will gain convenient access to destinations across Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe through connecting flights on Lufthansa Group carriers. Upon full implementation of the codeshare program, ITA Airways customers will be able to reach over 250 destinations in the Lufthansa Group network.

This development comes as ITA Airways prepares to exit the SkyTeam alliance on April 30, 2025, with plans to join the Star Alliance by early 2026. The airline has already integrated its Volare loyalty program with Lufthansa’s Miles & More, allowing members of both programs to earn and redeem points across all participating carriers.

Additional passenger benefits include reciprocal lounge access starting March 30, with ITA Airways passengers gaining entry to approximately 130 Lufthansa Group lounges worldwide, while Lufthansa Group passengers will have access to ITA Airways lounges.
