The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is strengthening its fight against illegal charter flights with the help of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). A virtual briefing was held on March 19, 2025, focusing on the dangers and prevention of these unauthorized operations.
The session, attended by 121 participants, included representatives from CAAP, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Bureau of Immigration (BI), Bureau of Customs (BOC), Office for Transportation Security (OTS), and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group.
According to CAAP Director General Retired Lt. Gen. Raul del Rosario, the partnership with the FAA demonstrates the commitment to ensuring safe and legal air transport operations in the Philippines.
“By providing aviation and law enforcement personnel with the necessary training and expertise, we can strengthen our ability to prevent illegal charter activities,” he stated.
Illegal charter flights bypass crucial safety regulations, posing significant risks to passengers. CAAP aims to enhance regulatory enforcement and increase awareness through ongoing international collaboration. More training initiatives are expected as part of this continuing partnership.
