AirAsia Philippines marked International Women’s Month with a remarkable demonstration of female leadership in aviation. On Monday, March 11, the airline operated flight Z2-227 from Manila to Caticlan with an all-women team handling every aspect of the journey.
The historic flight was commanded by Captain Jasmin Timola, a veteran pilot who has been with AirAsia Philippines for nearly a decade. Her leadership extended beyond the flight deck as women staffed every position from check-in counters to cabin crew, security, engineering, and ramp services.
This initiative highlights AirAsia Philippines’ ongoing commitment to gender diversity in the traditionally male-dominated aviation industry. The airline currently employs over 700 female staff members, representing 39% of its total workforce.

“Gone are the days when the aviation industry was considered a ‘man’s world’,” said AirAsia Philippines Chief Finance Officer Zoe Lee. “I humbly take pride in being part of the strong women in AirAsia. Each year, the number of women in our workforce continues to grow—a progressive commitment to an inclusive workplace.”
AirAsia Aviation Group continues to surpass global industry averages with 7% female pilots and 8.9% female engineers. The airline is also actively working to increase female representation in technology through its #WomenInTech initiative, which targets 30% female participation.
The celebration extends beyond this special flight. AirAsia Philippines will host “Brews & Breakthroughs: Celebrating IWD Over Coffee,” a special PAA-Talk session featuring Antoinette Santos, Program Analyst at UN Women Philippines. The session will focus on the private sector’s role in advancing gender equality, aligning with UN Women’s International Women’s Day 2025 theme.
