Sunlight Air adds new ATR 72-600 aircraft to growing fleet

Sunlight Air, a Philippine boutique carrier, has announced the procurement of an ATR 72-600 aircraft, marking its first fleet addition for 2025. The new aircraft, which will be registered as RP-C6388, will join the airline’s existing fleet of three ATR 72-500s.

Currently undergoing final technical checks before delivery, the ATR 72-600 features enhanced performance capabilities and accommodates up to 68 passengers. The aircraft type is recognized for its fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, aligning with the carrier’s environmental sustainability goals.

As we enter the new year, we find that there are more growth opportunities that come with the continuous increase of passenger demands.

Ryna Brito-Garcia, Sunlight Air CEO

“Sunlight Air is on a constant mission to upgrade flight frequency and efficiency as a top domestic carrier in the Philippines. This is only the beginning of an exciting year and we look forward to sharing more that we have in store toward continued efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused services,” she said.

The airline currently operates from its bases in Clark, Cebu, and Manila, serving popular tourist destinations including Boracay, Coron (Busuanga), Siargao, and Cagayan de Oro.

According to Sunlight, the new aircraft is expected to support both existing routes and planned network expansions, though specific new destinations have not yet been announced.

This fleet expansion represents a strategic move for Sunlight Air as it positions itself in the competitive domestic aviation market. The carrier distinguishes itself through its boutique service model, which includes integrated vacation packages through partnerships with local hotels and resorts.

The ATR 72-600 variant offers improved operational capabilities compared to its predecessor, the ATR 72-500, particularly in terms of avionics and fuel efficiency. This upgrade aligns with broader industry trends toward more sustainable aviation practices.

The aircraft type is popular for regional carriers around the globe, including the Philippines. In the country, there are various commercial ATR operators aside from Sunlight Air, which includes AirSWIFT, Cebgo, and Leading Edge.
