Japan’s National Police Agency introduces Airbus H160 helicopters to fleet

The National Police Agency (NPA) of Japan has strengthened its aerial law enforcement capabilities with the delivery of two Airbus H160 helicopters, making it the country’s first para-public operator of this advanced aircraft type.

The phased delivery saw the first H160 arriving in late 2024, followed by the second unit in January 2025. These acquisitions represent a major step forward in the modernization of Japan’s law enforcement aviation assets.

Jean-Luc Alfonsi, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan, emphasized the significance of the delivery, stating, “This is the culmination of two years of outstanding work and dedication of the teams in France and Japan.” He noted that the aircraft’s capabilities would enhance the NPA’s law enforcement operations.

The H160 helicopter is recognized for its advanced technological features and operational safety standards. The aircraft has demonstrated its versatility across various missions, including law enforcement, offshore transportation, search and rescue operations, and emergency medical services.

The adoption of the H160 by Japan’s NPA follows successful deployments in multiple countries, including Brazil, Canada, France, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as several European nations.
