Cebu Pacific, the Philippines’ largest carrier, has launched a new digital initiative that transforms traditional Filipino weaving patterns into functional QR codes, aiming to boost domestic tourism while preserving cultural heritage.
The initiative, dubbed QR Flight Codes, showcases five distinct weaving styles from different regions of the Philippines, including the Binakol from Ilocos Norte, Ramit from Occidental Mindoro, Hablon from Iloilo, Patadyong from Antique, and Yakan from Zamboanga.
Cebu Pacific takes pride in honoring the rich tapestry of our nation’s cultural heritage.
Candice Iyog, Cebu Pacific Chief Marketing & Customer Experience Officer
“Using our business as a platform for inclusive and sustainable growth, we celebrate the artistry of our local weaving communities, ensuring their timeless traditions are preserved and their stories are appreciated by every Filipino,” Iyog said.
Developed in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute, the QR codes will be displayed on billboards along major thoroughfares and airports nationwide, as well as in select magazines. When scanned, these codes provide information about traditional weaves and local attractions in their regions of origin.
The airline collaborated with several weaving communities to ensure cultural accuracy, including the Paoay Weavers of Ilocos Norte, the Hanunuo Mangyan of Occidental Mindoro, the Baraclayan Weavers Association of Iloilo, weaving cooperatives in Antique, and the Yakan artisans of Zamboanga.
To complement the initiative, Cebu Pacific has announced a promotional seat sale running until January 15, 2025, offering domestic flights starting at PHP 199 base fare for travel between January 4 and June 30, 2025.
The airline currently serves 35 domestic and 27 international destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
