The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Saturday that its Flight Standards Inspectorate Service (FSIS) has successfully obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification, achieving the milestone after four previous attempts.
The certification, which represents international recognition for quality management systems, validates FSIS’s regulatory processes and operational standards. This development carries particular significance for Philippine aviation, as FSIS oversees critical functions including the certification of commercial operators, training organizations, and maintenance facilities.
CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo emphasized the certification’s importance for building trust in Philippine aviation.
“This certification is a testament to CAAP’s commitment to the Filipino public and the aviation industry,” Tamayo said, highlighting its role in enhancing confidence in both domestic and international operations.
The FSIS, under the leadership of Acting Assistant Director General II Captain Florendo Jose Aquino, maintains responsibility for several key regulatory functions. These include issuing airmen licenses, coordinating regulations across departments, and ensuring compliance with both national and international aviation standards.
This achievement marks an important step in CAAP’s ongoing efforts to align with international aviation practices. The certification process, which typically involves rigorous auditing and documentation reviews, demonstrates the organization’s ability to consistently meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
The announcement comes as the Philippine aviation sector continues to work toward strengthening its regulatory framework and improving its standing in the global aviation community.
