The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has earmarked P12.4 billion for a comprehensive aviation infrastructure modernization program in 2025.
The investment package, announced during the Department of Transportation’s Sakay Na program on a local radio network, allocates P10.6 billion for civil works and P1.8 billion for equipment and systems upgrades across various airports nationwide.
CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo emphasized the authority’s commitment to aviation safety during the broadcast.
“Ang thrust natin is to really make the Philippine sky safe. Ayaw nating magkaroon ng mga accidents and incidents, as much as possible,” Tamayo said in Filipino. (“Our thrust is to make the Philippine sky safe. We want to prevent accidents and incidents as much as possible,” in English.)
A key component of the modernization initiative includes night-rating upgrades for Cauayan, Dipolog, and Pagadian airports. These improvements will enable these regional gateways to accommodate evening flights, addressing growing air traffic demands and expanding operational capabilities.
The development program also encompasses the launch of Bukidnon Airport for general aviation operations this year. This new facility is expected to serve as a crucial transportation link for the region, supporting local commerce and mobility.
CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas joined Tamayo in presenting the modernization plan during the program, which was hosted by Department of Transportation Executive Assistant Jonathan Gesmundo.
The comprehensive infrastructure investment aims to strengthen the Philippines’ position in global aviation while improving connectivity across the archipelago.
