Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has renewed its partnership with air transport technology provider SITA for a five-year digital transformation initiative, the IT company announced on Dec. 3, 2024. The agreement will see SITA manage and upgrade PAL’s network infrastructure and end-user computing (EUC) solutions.

PAL will integrate several SITA solutions, including wireless (Wi-Fi) capabilities, end-user-managed workplace services, and SITA messaging. The airline will also implement SITA’s Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solutions, secured by Cloud Secure Service Edge (Cloud SSE), at 77 airport and off-airport locations, adding 15 new sites.

This modernization effort aims to improve service quality, reduce costs, ensure business continuity, and enhance operational efficiency. The integrated system will provide a unified network and security setup, offering a better user experience.

“The renewal of our long-standing partnership with Philippine Airlines clearly reaffirms our leadership in delivering unique network infrastructure and innovative technology solutions for the aviation industry,” said Sumesh Patel, President of SITA APAC.

Capt. Stanley Ng, President and Chief Operating Officer of Philippine Airlines Inc., said the partnership is a crucial step in their ongoing digital transformation. “By integrating advanced technology solutions, we are committed to enhancing our operational efficiency, security, and passenger experience,” he said.

The initiative aligns with PAL’s 2024 goals to modernize and secure its IT network. PAL has been a member and shareholder of SITA SC, the Belgian cooperative holding company of the SITA Group, since June 17, 1952.

The airline was recently recognized as the most on-time airline in the Asia-Pacific region for January 2024, with 86.85% of flights arriving on schedule, according to Cirium.
