A Philippine Airlines (PAL) Express flight from Cebu experienced a minor runway excursion at Bacolod-Silay Airport on Friday morning, December 27, 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed. All passengers and crew aboard the aircraft were unharmed in the incident.

PAL Express flight 2P-2285, operating with a De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft registered as RP-C5911, landed on Runway 03 at approximately 5:32 a.m. local time, based on data from FlightRadar24.com, but failed to stop within the runway’s designated length.

CAAP attributed the excursion to heavy rainfall that significantly reduced the aircraft’s braking action. The aircraft eventually came to rest on the airport’s taxiway.

“All passengers and crew onboard were unharmed and were promptly attended to by airport personnel and authorities,” the CAAP stated in its press release. The agency did not specify the number of passengers and crew members on board.

Due to the incident, PAL canceled the return flight 2P-2286 from Bacolod to Cebu. Additionally, the disruption caused the cancellation of two Cebgo flights departing from Cebu. However, as of this writing, flight operations have returned to normal.

“Affected passengers were immediately notified and provided with rebooking options or alternative travel arrangements,” the CAAP said.

The CAAP emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and announced that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the minor runway excursion and implement measures to prevent similar incidents.
