Malaysia Airlines announced a substantial increase in flight operations to and from East Malaysia to accommodate the anticipated surge in travel during the upcoming December festive season and Chinese New Year celebrations. The national carrier will operate 112 additional red-eye flights between Kuala Lumpur and destinations in Sabah and Sarawak from December 19, 2024, to January 1, 2025.
This expansion includes up to 66 additional flights to and from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, and Tawau in Sabah, and 46 additional flights to and from Kuching and Miri in Sarawak. With the added capacity, Malaysia Airlines will operate up to 596 flights between Kuala Lumpur and East Malaysia during the holiday period, offering travelers greater flexibility and convenience.
To further facilitate travel during the Chinese New Year period, the airline is offering fixed fares on its website and mobile app. All-in one-way fares to and from Sabah and Sarawak will start at RM 349. During this time, Malaysia Airlines will operate an additional 102 red-eye flights between January 24 and February 4, 2025, resulting in a total of 219 weekly flights to and from the East Malaysian states.

Beyond its domestic network, Malaysia Airlines is also expanding its regional connectivity. Starting January 28, 2025, the airline will introduce a seventh daily flight frequency to Jakarta, Indonesia, providing increased convenience for both business and leisure travelers between Malaysia and Indonesia.
Malaysia Airlines anticipates a significant increase in passenger traffic during the year-end peak travel season. The airline advises travelers to utilize online check-in services through its official app or website to streamline their journey. Passengers are also encouraged to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled departure to ensure ample time for check-in, security procedures, and boarding.
