A KLM Boeing 737-800 veered off the runway during an emergency landing at Norway’s Sandefjord Airport on December 28, with all 182 passengers and crew emerging unharmed from the incident, according to the airline.
Flight KL-1204, bound for Amsterdam from Oslo, experienced issues shortly after takeoff when crew members reported hearing a loud noise, as confirmed in KLM’s official statement.
The Aviation Herald reports that the aircraft, registered as PH-BXM, stopped its climb at 5,000 feet after the crew reported hydraulic problems.
The pilots diverted to Sandefjord Airport, where the aircraft touched down on Runway 18 at approximately 19:05 local time.
During the landing roll, the Boeing 737 veered to the right, coming to rest with its nose gear and right main landing gear off the runway surface, according to The Aviation Herald.
“All 176 passengers and 6 crew members are unharmed and are being taken care of,” KLM stated. The airline confirmed that passengers were transported to Oslo by bus and provided with hotel accommodation as needed.
KLM has dispatched a technical team to Sandefjord to investigate the incident alongside local authorities and airport officials.
The airport was temporarily closed following the incident, as reported by Norwegian Police.
