The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is geared up to handle the anticipated surge in air passenger traffic during the upcoming holiday season, the agency announced Wednesday.

As part of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) “Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Pasko 2024” initiative, CAAP will implement measures to ensure safe, efficient, and comfortable travel experiences at the 44 airports under its management from Dec. 20, 2024, to Jan. 3, 2025.

CAAP has confirmed the full operational readiness of its Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems. The agency stated that comprehensive contingency plans are also in place to address potential flight disruptions and maintain seamless airport operations amidst the expected influx of travelers.

“CAAP recognizes the importance of a stress-free travel experience during the holiday season,” said CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo. “By ensuring the reliability of our systems and the readiness of our facilities, we aim to deliver smooth and safe journeys for all passengers.”

To further support travelers, CAAP will be offering “Malasakit kits” containing essential items such as biscuits, coffee, and hygiene products. Additionally, “Malasakit Help Desks” will be available throughout the airports to address passenger inquiries and concerns.

CAAP is collaborating with airline operators and other relevant government agencies to ensure efficient airport operations and enhance overall passenger satisfaction.

To mitigate potential delays and ensure a smooth travel experience, CAAP advises travelers to plan their trips in advance, arrive at the airport two to three hours before their scheduled flights, and adhere to airport guidelines. The agency also reminded passengers that sharp objects are prohibited in carry-on luggage.

The Philippines traditionally experiences a significant increase in domestic and international travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays. CAAP’s annual preparations are critical to managing the increased passenger volume and maintaining efficient airport operations nationwide.
