The first Star Alliance branded airport lounge in Asia opened its doors on November 21 at Terminal 1 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, further expanding the global airline alliance’s premium passenger facilities into one of aviation’s fastest-growing markets.

Located in Terminal 1’s international departure area, the 750-square-meter lounge accommodates up to 100 guests and is accessible to First Class, Business Class, and Star Alliance Gold status passengers traveling on member airlines’ flights. The facility operates 24 hours daily.

“As a key strategic hub in Asia, Guangzhou serves as an important gateway for our guests,” said Star Alliance CEO Theo Panagiotoulias. “We are excited to inaugurate our first lounge in Asia, given the significance of the continent to aviation growth today and in the years to come.”

The lounge, therefore, sports workstations, shower suites, and a 100-square-meter VIP room for private meetings. The new room’s design elements incorporate local art and cultural touches, including a dedicated Tea Appreciation Corner highlighting regional traditions.

Ten Star Alliance member carriers currently operate from Guangzhou: Air China, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Egyptair, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways International, and Turkish Airlines.

The alliance will also open a second branded lounge at the new Terminal 3 at Guangzhou, although no timing was confirmed.
