Within 26 hours, Siargao Airport experienced disruptions due to two separate aircraft incidents involving PAL Express and Cebgo aircraft, aviation authorities confirmed.
According to Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolinario, a PAL Express De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft operating flight 2P-2971 from Manila experienced a runway excursion at approximately 1:55 PM on November 19.
Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 shows the aircraft, registered as RP-C5903, departed Manila at 12:14 PM and landed in Siargao at 1:48 PM.
The following day, at 3:18 PM, Cebgo flight DG-6859, operated by an ATR 72-600 aircraft (RP-C7280) from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, encountered technical difficulties during its landing roll when its left main landing gear burst, Apolinario reported.
CAAP Siargao Airport, in a social media post, confirmed that the PAL Express aircraft was safely removed at 3:20 AM on November 20 through a coordinated effort involving airport personnel, local government units, and airline staff.
The incidents prompted Cebu Pacific to cancel several flights, including DG-6860 and DG-6862 (Siargao-Cebu), and DG-6839/6840 (Manila-Siargao-Manila).
The airline has offered affected passengers options including free rebooking, travel fund conversion, or full refunds.
“Cebu Pacific assures its passengers that safety remains our utmost priority, and our team is actively working to resolve this issue promptly,” the airline stated in an advisory.
Normal operations resumed several hours after the second incident, according to Apolinario.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board (AAIB) is conducting an investigation into both incidents.
