Multiple airports across the Eastern Philippines suspended flight operations on Tuesday as a tropical storm brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the region, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) reported.
The weather system has affected more than 1,000 passengers through flight cancellations at Bicol, Masbate, Virac, and Siargao airports. Tacloban Airport also experienced a power outage amid continuous rainfall and moderate to heavy winds.
Philippine Airlines canceled four flights at Bicol International Airport, affecting 606 passengers on routes between Manila and Daraga. At Virac Airport, Cebu Pacific suspended two flights, impacting 258 passengers.
In Masbate, where visibility dropped to one kilometer due to moderate to heavy rainfall, Cebgo canceled two flights affecting 140 passengers. The airline also canceled services to Siargao, disrupting travel plans for 117 passengers.
CAAP Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo ordered Area Center Managers to strictly enforce the ban on light aircraft operations during the inclement weather.
The Bicol Region, including Albay province where Bicol International Airport is located, remains under Tropical Storm Signal No. 1. Calbayog Airport suspended operations, while Catarman Airport canceled scheduled flights due to the weather conditions.
