AirAsia, a one of the largest Southeast Asian airlines, has announced a partnership with Japanese gaming companies SEGA and ATLUS to create themed aircraft featuring characters from popular video game franchises. The collaboration, part of AirAsia’s “The Colour Of Connection” campaign, aims to blend gaming and travel experiences for passengers.

Two aircraft in AirAsia’s fleet will showcase designs from SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog and ATLUS’s Persona 5 series. An AirAsia X Airbus A330-343 (tail number 9M-XXU) will feature Sonic and his companions, while an AirAsia Malaysia Airbus A320-214 (tail number 9M-AFF) will display Persona 5 characters.

These specially designed planes will operate on routes across AirAsia’s network, including major Asian cities such as Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Sydney.

Rudy Khaw, CEO of AirAsia brand co. (Abc.), said: “This partnership marks another milestone for the AirAsia brand as we delve deeper into the exciting world of gaming and pop culture. This partnership is a natural fit for AirAsia, as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing experiences for our guests and communities.”

Shuji Utsumi, President and COO of SEGA CORPORATION, added: “We are honoured to be able to undertake such a wonderful initiative with AirAsia. The Sonic and Persona series are expanding not only in Japan but throughout Asia. We believe that the synergy created by the collaboration of travel and gaming, two forms of entertainment, will bring us new discoveries.”

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which began over 30 years ago, has expanded beyond video games into TV shows, comics, and movies. Persona 5, a role-playing game known for its unique blend of high school life and supernatural elements, has also gained critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.
