Low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines has announced the cancellation of its planned Manila-Nagoya route and the suspension of several domestic routes as part of its ongoing efforts to streamline operations.

The airline will discontinue services on four routes, affecting flights from Cebu and Manila, starting mid-October 2024.

According to a travel notice issued by AirAsia, the following routes will be suspended:

  • Cebu – Puerto Princesa: Effective October 18, 2024
  • Cebu – Caticlan: Effective October 18, 2024
  • Cebu – Davao: Effective October 18, 2024
  • Manila – Nagoya: Canceled before launch

The cancellation of the Manila-Nagoya route comes as a surprise, as AirAsia had announced the route launch only in July, with flights scheduled to begin on October 29. The airline had opened reservations and even promoted special fares for this route.

In response to the Cebu route suspensions, rival carrier Cebu Pacific has reportedly stepped in to assist affected passengers. According to a report from Bilyonaryo News Channel, the Gokongwei-led airline is offering a rescue fare of PHP1,000 for same-day flights at the airport to passengers who present their canceled AirAsia tickets. This offer is available until October 24, 2024.

AirAsia has not provided specific reasons for the individual route suspensions or the cancellation of the Manila-Nagoya route.

Passengers with existing bookings on the affected routes are advised to check AirAsia’s official website or contact customer service for information on rebooking options or refunds.
