The Indonesian Air Force (IAF) has signed an agreement to purchase four Airbus H145 helicopters, marking a significant step in the modernization of its training program.

The announcement came during the Bali International Airshow on Sept. 18, 2024.

Under the agreement, Airbus will deliver the five-bladed H145s to PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), an Indonesian aerospace company.

PTDI will then reassemble the helicopters, install mission equipment, and perform customizations at its Bandung facility before final delivery to the IAF.

These multi-role helicopters will be used for military pilot training and light search-and-rescue missions.

“We are honoured by Indonesia’s selection of the country’s first Airbus H145 for its new training fleet,” said Vincent Dubrule, Head of Asia-Pacific, Airbus Helicopters.

“We are fully confident that the highly versatile H145 will make a positive impact in enhancing its military pilot training and at the same time be a critical enabler for its search-and-rescue operations.”

Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI, highlighted the significance of the partnership: “This collaboration not only strengthens the long-standing partnership between PTDI and Airbus, but also showcases our commitment to providing innovative and reliable solutions for national operational needs.”

The collaboration between Airbus Helicopters and Indonesia dates back to 1976. PTDI has been involved in the production of various Airbus helicopter components, including the H225 rear fuselage and main airframe.

The two companies have expanded their cooperation to include support and services for the Indonesian military helicopter fleet.

The H145 features a five-bladed rotor, increasing its useful load by 150 kg compared to previous versions. Its Helionix digital avionics suite enhances safety and reduces pilot workload.

The H145 family is a popular choice for military training, with armed forces such as the US Army, the UK Armed Forces, and soon the German armed forces utilizing it for their training programs.
