The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the new operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC), met on Sept. 19, 2024, to discuss the airport’s modernization project.
Based on photos released by CAAP, Director General Captain Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo held a meeting with NNIC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang and CAAP leadership.
Both parties discussed crucial projects, including improvements to taxiways, weather and lighting systems, and air traffic control facilities, aimed at ensuring smoother airport operations and increasing aircraft movement capacity.
Recognizing the rising demand for aviation professionals, CAAP and NNIC also explored collaboration opportunities for human capital development.
NNIC expressed its support for CAAP’s training programs for Air Traffic Service (ATS) and Air Navigation Service (ANS) personnel.
“These upgrades are essential for ensuring smoother operations and increasing the number of aircraft movements at NAIA,” CAAP said in a press release.
NNIC has also pledged to contribute to the refurbishment of the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) in Merville, Pasay City, including upgrading training facilities and purchasing new tower simulators.
Furthermore, both organizations acknowledged the need to enhance Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training facilities and equipment to bolster airport safety and emergency preparedness.
“Improving training capabilities and equipment would significantly benefit the overall safety standing of Philippine aviation,” CAAP said.
According to the agency, the meeting concluded with Ang confirming their platinum sponsorship for the upcoming 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA 59) hosted by CAAP in Cebu this October.
