Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) announced Saturday it will temporarily reduce its network through December 2024 to address operational challenges and improve fleet reliability.
The move comes after recent service disruptions affecting Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and Amal flights. MAG cited supply chain constraints, manpower challenges, and delayed aircraft deliveries as factors contributing to the operational difficulties.
“We are taking immediate steps to address the root causes of these significant issues,” said Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, MAG’s Group Managing Director. “Ensuring our aircraft are in optimal condition for safe and efficient operations whilst minimizing potential disruptions are our utmost and urgent priority.”
The company is working with aircraft and engine manufacturers, as well as suppliers, to resolve technical issues. MAG acknowledged that fewer aircraft are available for operations than planned due to delayed deliveries of new planes this year.
While specific routes affected by the network reduction were not disclosed, MAG stated that affected customers would receive email notifications about flight cancellations and updated itineraries.
Ismail apologized for the inconvenience to passengers, saying, “We appreciate our customers’ understanding and support as we work through these challenges.”
The temporary service cuts are part of MAG’s efforts to execute corrective measures and ensure long-term fleet reliability. The company aims to strengthen its operations and position itself for future growth.
Passengers requiring assistance can make immediate changes to their bookings through the Malaysia Airlines website or contact the airline’s customer support channels.
