Cebu Pacific marked a significant milestone last Friday, August 16, 2024, with the relaunch of its direct flights between Manila and Kaohsiung. The occasion was celebrated with a lively yet simple ceremony before the inaugural flight.
Attending the relaunch ceremonies at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 were key figures, including Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Civil Aeronautics Board Executive Director Atty. Carmelo Arcilla, Cebu Pacific Chief Corporate Officer Michael Ivan Shau.
Representatives from the Manila International Airport Authority and the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) were also present at the event.
The relaunch of this route is more than just the restoration of a connection between two vibrant cities. It is a reaffirmation of our commitment to bringing people together, fostering closer ties, and promoting mutual growth and development.
Cebu Pacific Chief Corporate Officer Michael Ivan Shau
Secretary Bautista echoed Shau’s sentiments, commending Cebu Pacific for its continued expansion and shared dedication to accessible and affordable air travel.
I am very happy that Cebu Pacific is expanding its operations. We share the goal of providing a comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, and affordable travel experience to the public.
DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista
Prior to boarding, passengers were greeted with a traditional Taiwanese welcome, complete with a delicious selection of local cuisine and souvenirs from the Taiwan Tourism and TECO. The gesture served as a warm introduction to the vibrant culture and hospitality of the city.
The flight itself was operated by an Airbus A320ceoSL, carrying 165 passengers and 8 crew members under the command of Captain Lester Bayrante and First Officer Marco Santos. Flight 5J344 departed from Bay 110 at NAIA Terminal 3 and took off at precisely 5:42 PM local time via Runway 31.
While the journey experienced some light turbulence during the climb due to weather conditions over northern Luzon, the cabin crew expertly managed the situation, providing passengers with a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Passengers enjoyed a scenic view of the city skyline at night as the plane landed in Kaohsiung at 7:06 PM, marking the return of Cebu Pacific’s Manila-Kaohsiung flights.
The Manila-Kaohsiung route will operate three times a week, departing Manila on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 5:15 PM and arriving in Kaohsiung at 7:15 PM. The return flight, 5J345, leaves Kaohsiung at 8:00 PM and arrives in Manila at 10:05 PM.
This relaunch further solidifies Cebu Pacific’s position as a leading budget airline, connecting people and places across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. With a network spanning 35 domestic and 26 international destinations, the airline continues to play a vital role in fostering growth and promoting cultural exchange between diverse communities.
