Commercial flights from Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to Bantayan Island commenced on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, significantly reducing travel time to the popular tourist destination.

The inaugural flight saw passengers arriving on the island in just 35 minutes, compared to the usual six-hour journey by land from Cebu City. The Cebu-Bantayan route, priced at P888, will operate twice a week – every Friday and Sunday.

King Aces Travel and Tours Service Inc. (KATTSI), a travel and tours firm and subsidiary of a cooperative composed of active, retired, and civilian members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, will operate the flights. They will utilize two ATR twin-engine turboprop aircraft, each with a capacity of up to 70 passengers.

“The much-anticipated Cebu-Bantayan route will offer regular commercial flights…enhancing convenience and accessibility for both tourists and locals eager to experience Bantayan Island’s pristine beaches and tranquil island lifestyle,” stated the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA).

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, flights connecting mainland Cebu and Bantayan Island were primarily chartered. The Cebu Provincial Government, the Department of Transportation, and MCIAA collaborated to upgrade the Bantayan airport to accommodate passenger aircraft, including constructing a passenger terminal and extending the runway.

“The increased ease of travel to Bantayan Island is expected to attract a new wave of tourists, both from within the Philippines and abroad, thus boosting the visibility and appeal of the region,” MCIAA added.
