AirAsia Philippines announced it will strictly enforce its cabin baggage policy starting August 15, 2024, in an effort to enhance boarding efficiency and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.

The policy limits each passenger to a combined total weight of 7 kilograms for their cabin baggage, which can include one trolley bag or backpack and one small personal item.

The main cabin bag must not exceed 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm and fit in the overhead compartment, while the personal item should be no larger than 40 cm x 30 cm x 10 cm and fit under the seat in front.

“Our cabin baggage policy is in place to support on-time departures by ensuring a faster and seamless boarding and disembarking process,” said Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Communications and Public Affairs Head & First Officer.

“Compliance also ensures fair access to overhead compartments for all guests, maintaining both safety and comfort,” Dailisan added.

The airline emphasized that multiple items tied together will not be counted as a single piece, and items purchased at the airport will be included in the cabin baggage allowance. Only duty-free items in sealed, tamper-evident bags with proof of purchase are exempt.

Passengers with oversized or overweight cabin baggage will be required to check these items. The airline warned that strict inspections will be conducted at boarding gates, potentially resulting in additional fees for non-compliant bags.

“Adhering to the cabin baggage policy is crucial to avoid unexpected higher charges at the airport and reduce congestion which affects the guest experience, especially during boarding and disembarkation,” Dailisan added.

“Compliance also helps maintain safety and comfort, while promoting consistency and fairness, ensuring a smoother travel experience for all guests.”
