AirAsia Philippines has partnered with the Universal Islamic Center (UIC) and Philippine Halal Trade & Tourism to promote the Philippines as a Halal-friendly destination.
The low-cost carrier has been offering Halal-certified meal options on all its flights, including Filipino favorites and authentic Asean dishes. The airline is now expanding its efforts by organizing a Halal Culinary Cup in Davao during the Kadayawan Festival. The winning dish will be featured on the inflight menu.
AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla said, “We’re continuously enhancing our offerings and ensuring that Muslim friends feel welcomed and truly at home when they visit our beautiful country.”
The Philippine Halal industry is estimated to be worth $1.6 billion, according to the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board. The Philippines is home to the third largest Muslim population in Southeast Asia.
Marilou Ampuan, President of UIC and Philippine Halal Trade & Tourism, emphasized the importance of airlines in Halal promotion. “AirAsia’s commitment and dedication to be inclusive by providing a selection of Halal meals demonstrate that traveling to the Philippines is accessible and accommodative for Muslim travelers,” she said.
The partnership aims to attract more Muslim visitors to the Philippines for leisure and business travel.
