AirAsia announced a significant expansion of its flight network, increasing weekly flights to 3,281 across its ASEAN routes. The airline aims to solidify its position as a key driver of tourism and economic growth within the region. This announcement coincided with the 57th ASEAN Day celebration held at AirAsia RedQ in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia.

This expansion includes the reinstatement of the Kuala Lumpur to Da Lat, Vietnam route, starting November 1, 2024. The route will operate four times weekly, offering travelers access to Da Lat’s scenic landscapes and cultural attractions.

Bo Lingam, AirAsia Aviation Group CEO, highlighted the airline’s commitment to ASEAN, stating, “In 2023, AirAsia carried over 61 million guests, with more than 33 percent traveling across ASEAN. Over the years, the airline has been a transformative force in ASEAN, democratizing air travel for millions while unveiling both the well-trodden paths and hidden gems of the region’s tourism market with about 60 percent of destinations being new and unique.”

Lingam emphasized the importance of ASEAN unity, saying, “Our expanding operational footprint, with major hubs in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Cambodia, is a reflection of our unwavering belief in the power and potential of ASEAN unity and strength as an economic bloc.”

The airline is projecting to welcome 75 million passengers in 2024, with half expected from the ASEAN region. AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla echoed this sentiment, stating, “Today’s announcement of increased flight frequencies within ASEAN highlights AirAsia’s dedication to driving tourism and economic growth in the region. By expanding our route network and providing more accessible air travel options, we are not just connecting destinations – we are investing in the future of ASEAN, bridging cultures and creating new opportunities for everyone.”

To celebrate ASEAN Day, AirAsia Philippines is offering over 300,000 domestic and international seats with a base fare as low as PHP 88 one-way. Bookings are available until August 11th for travel between October 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
