Severe weather conditions caused by Typhoon Carina have led to numerous flight cancellations and diversions across the Philippines on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, according to aviation authorities.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported that as of 1:30 PM local time, 30 flights had been canceled and four were diverted due to unfavorable weather in Manila and other parts of the country.

Among the affected airlines were Shenzhen Airlines, PAL Express, Cebu Pacific, Cebgo, and AirSWIFT. Canceled routes included domestic flights to Basco, Tuguegarao, Busuanga, Laoag, Pagadian, San Jose, Naga, and Romblon, as well as an international flight between Manila and Shenzhen.

Four inbound flights to Manila were diverted to alternate airports. A Cebu Pacific flight from Legazpi was rerouted to Iloilo, while two AirAsia flights from Kalibo and Davao were diverted to Clark and Kalibo, respectively. A Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur was also diverted to Clark.

Earlier this morning, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced the suspension of operations at Basco Airport and Palanan Airport due to the typhoon. Several other regional airports reported flight cancellations, including San Jose, Naga, and Tuguegarao.

At Tuguegarao Airport, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines canceled a total of four flights, affecting nearly 1,000 passengers. Naga Airport saw one flight return to Manila and another canceled, impacting 140 travelers.

Basco Airport in Batanes, one of the northernmost provinces of the Philippines, canceled three flights, including two general aviation flights operated by Sky Pasada between Tuguegarao and Basco.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and rebooking options. The situation remains fluid as aviation authorities and airlines continue to monitor weather conditions and adjust operations accordingly.
