Typhoon Carina has forced airlines to cancel more than 140 flights at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday, affecting both domestic and international travel.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported that as of 12:50 p.m., 144 flights had been cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions caused by the typhoon.

Major carriers including Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and international airlines such as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, EVA Air, and China Airlines have all been affected by the weather disturbance.

Cebu Pacific bore the brunt of the cancellations, with dozens of its domestic and international flights grounded. Routes to popular tourist destinations like Boracay (Caticlan), Palawan (Puerto Princesa), and Bohol (Tagbilaran) were among those affected.

Philippine Airlines and its subsidiary PAL Express also cancelled several flights, particularly to northern and eastern parts of the country, including services to Basco, Tuguegarao, and Cagayan.

International routes to Asian destinations such as Hong Kong, Taipei, Bangkok, and Singapore were not spared from the disruptions.

However, some flights that were initially cancelled have been cleared to operate. Some Cebu Pacific flights to General Santos, Bacolod, Tagbilaran, and Zamboanga, which were earlier announced as cancelled, are now proceeding as scheduled.

Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight information and rebooking options.

The MIAA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
