A Philippine Airlines (PAL) De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 aircraft overshot the runway at Francisco B. Reyes Airport in Busuanga, Palawan, on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 2:51 p.m. on July 14, 2024, amid inclement weather conditions.

According to PAL, the Q400 plane, operating as flight 2P-2680 from Cebu to Busuanga, overran the runway upon landing. The aircraft, with registration number RP-C5905, came to a stop on a grassy area beyond the concrete runway.

All 53 passengers and four crew members safely deplaned following the runway excursion, PAL reported in a statement.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of the passengers of flight PR2680 and those affected by the subsequent disruptions,” the airline added.

The incident led to the closure of the airport, causing the diversion of a Cebgo ATR 72-600 from Manila and another PAL Express Q400 from Clark.

PAL stated, “We are working closely with the airport authorities to restore normal operations in Busuanga.”

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) provided a situational report to the media, listing the following affected flights due to the disabled aircraft:

  • PAL Express
    • GAP2678 Clark – Busuanga
    • GAP2965 Manila – Busuanga
  • Cebgo
    • SRQ6051 Manila – Busuanga
    • SRQ6066 Mactan – Busuanga

CAAP is expected to launch an investigation into the incident.

PAL advised AUP that the disabled aircraft has been removed as of 2:39 a.m. on Monday, July 15, paving the way for the reopening of the aerodrome.
