Malaysia Airlines’ inaugural Airbus A330neo has emerged from the paint shop in Toulouse, France, sporting the carrier’s distinctive Malaysia flag livery. This milestone marks a significant step in the aircraft’s production process, with delivery expected in the third quarter of 2024.
The newly painted A330neo will now undergo several critical phases before joining Malaysia Airlines’ fleet. Airbus will equip the aircraft with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and conduct performance tests prior to its maiden flight.
“The completion of the painting phase is an important milestone in the aircraft’s production journey,” Airbus said in a press release. “Next, we’ll focus on comprehensive testing of all cabin systems and advanced general performance checks.”
These tests will include thorough examinations of the aircraft’s air conditioning, lighting, galleys, lavatories, seating, and in-flight entertainment systems.
The A330neo is a key component of the Malaysia Aviation Group’s fleet renewal strategy, which began in 2022 with an order for 20 of these aircraft. Once in service, the new wide-body planes will operate on routes across Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East.
The European wide-body aircraft offers improved fuel efficiency and passenger comfort compared to its predecessor, potentially enhancing Malaysia Airlines’ competitiveness on medium to long-haul routes.
