Maersk Air Cargo (MAC) has taken delivery of its first Boeing 777F, marking a significant expansion of its air freight capabilities. The aircraft, the first of two ordered in November 2021, was handed over at Boeing’s headquarters in Seattle, Washington.

The new freighter arrived at its home airport in Billund, Denmark, on July 13. It will be the first Boeing 777 owned by a Danish airline.

Lars Jordahn, Head of Maersk Air Cargo, highlighted the aircraft’s capabilities: “The B777F can transport more than double the payload on each flight compared to our 767Fs, and it is the most fuel-efficient aircraft in the world with the GE90 engines.”

The Boeing 777F boasts a range of up to 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and can carry a maximum payload of 102,000 kilograms. Its main deck accommodates pallets up to 3 meters high, and all cargo decks are temperature-controlled.

Maersk plans to deploy both 777Fs on its existing Europe-China route, initially operating three weekly flights with plans to increase to six. This expansion aims to provide increased capacity and efficiency for Maersk’s air freight customers in these regions.

Narin Phol, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer for Logistics and Services at Maersk, emphasized the commercial significance of the acquisition: “Besides enabling a much more efficient route structuring, our 777Fs will improve the availability of space for our customers as we see a growing demand for integrated supply chain solutions which include air.”

The delivery of the second 777F is scheduled for later in the third quarter of this year. Once both aircraft are in service, Maersk Air Cargo’s owned and controlled fleet will comprise two Boeing 777Fs and 20 Boeing 767Fs.

Maersk Air Freight currently ranks among the top 20 air freight forwarders globally and is in the top 10 in Germany and the Netherlands. The company also utilizes commercial flights from other airlines to transport a significant portion of its air freight volumes.
