Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates airline, has ordered five additional Boeing 777 Freighters, doubling its order book for the aircraft to 10, the companies announced on Tuesday.
The purchase is part of Emirates SkyCargo’s fleet modernization strategy and aims to boost its main deck cargo capacity by 30% by 2026. With this addition, the carrier’s freighter fleet will grow to 17 aircraft, including 777 Freighters, 777 converted freighters, and 747 Freighters.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, said the investment addresses growing demand for the carrier’s services and aligns with Dubai’s economic goals.
This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward on our long-term strategic growth plan.

He added that the next phase of their strategy would include a comprehensive assessment of future freighter fleet needs.
The Boeing 777 Freighter can fly 9,200 kilometers (4,970 nautical miles) and carry 102 metric tons (112 tons) of freight, making it the most capable twin-engine cargo jet in terms of range and payload. This capability allows operators to offer more long-range, nonstop flights connecting key cargo markets without refueling.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed gratitude for Emirates SkyCargo’s continued trust in Boeing’s widebody family.
“We deeply value Emirates’ trust in the Boeing widebody family and are committed to supporting their long-term strategic growth plan,” she said.
The 777 Freighter is Boeing’s best-selling freighter airplane of all time, with more than 265 deliveries to date. Boeing provides over 90% of the worldwide dedicated freighter capacity, including new production and converted airplanes.
Emirates’ total order book now stands at 245 Boeing widebody airplanes, reflecting the ongoing partnership between the Middle Eastern carrier and the American aerospace manufacturer.
