Oneworld, a global airline alliance, announced on Monday that Fiji Airways has been welcomed as its 15th full member airline.

The flag carrier of Fiji has been a Oneworld Connect partner for the past five years, paving the way for a seamless integration into full membership.

“It’s a very warm bula, or hello, to Fiji Airways as we welcome them as our 15th full member airline in the oneworld alliance,” said Nat Pieper, Oneworld CEO.

“Fiji Airways is already part of the oneworld family, as we have had a highly successful relationship since the airline joined as a oneworld connect partner five years ago.”

Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and CEO of Fiji Airways, expressed pride in joining the award-winning alliance, stating, “As a full member airline, we are excited to enhance the travel experience for oneworld alliance frequent flyers, offering greater accessibility to Fiji and the South Pacific, and ensuring seamless connections and memorable journeys for Fiji Airways customers across the alliance network.”

With its hub at Nadi International Airport, Fiji Airways serves 26 destinations in 15 countries and territories globally, including Oneworld hubs at Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Its subsidiary, Fiji Link, will become an affiliate airline, extending the alliance’s network to domestic flights within Fiji and regional routes to Pacific Island nations.

As a full Oneworld member, Fiji Airways will provide top-tier customers with a suite of benefits, including earning and redeeming miles, priority services, and access to nearly 700 lounges worldwide. In turn, Fiji Airways’ top-tier customers will gain access to Oneworld’s priority benefits.

Fiji Airways, which commenced operations in 1951, currently has a fleet of 21 aircraft, including Airbus A350s, A330s, and Boeing 737s.

The airline recently announced record profits and revenues for 2023, carrying 2.2 million passengers and offering 2.8 million seats.

The Oneworld alliance, founded in 1999, will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year.

Oman Air is set to become the 14th member airline before Fiji Airways’ full integration within the next 12 months.
