Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has introduced a new transfer system called “Cebu Connect” aimed at reducing layover times and improving passenger experience.
The system, launched by airport operator Aboitiz InfraCapital GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (AGMCAC), is designed to facilitate efficient transfers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
AGMCAC Chief Executive Officer Athanasios Titonis said, “Cebu Connect aims to cut layover time from an hour to 30 minutes or less, giving both domestic and international passengers more freedom to travel to their destination.”
The initiative is part of MCIA’s efforts to meet global standards in airport operations and enhance tourism in Cebu.
Cosette Canilao, President and CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc., stated, “Providing efficient and effortless travel through Cebu Connect is our way of enhancing tourism in Cebu and positioning MCIA among the world’s best airports.”
AGMCAC collaborated with government agencies, including the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, Bureau of Customs, and Bureau of Immigration, to implement the new system.
Updated X-ray scanners, multiple counters, and trained staff have been put in place to ensure safe and expedited transfers.
Titonis added that the system aims to simplify transfers for various groups of travelers, including frequent flyers, families with small children, persons with disabilities, and those on time-sensitive medical or business trips.
MCIA, the second-largest airport in the Philippines, serves over 11 million passengers annually. It is operated by a consortium of Aboitiz InfraCapital, GMR Group of India, and Megawide Construction Corporation under a concession agreement with the Philippine government.
The airport has received accreditation from the Airports Council International for Airport Customer Experience and Airport Health.
