Budget carrier Cebu Pacific has released its 2023 sustainability report detailing progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives.
The report, titled “Sustained Momentum,” outlines the airline’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions through fleet modernization and operational efficiency.
According to the report, Cebu Pacific has converted 43% of its fleet to more fuel-efficient New Engine Option (NEO) aircraft. This change resulted in a reduction of 161,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. The airline aims to transition to an all-NEO fleet by 2028.
Additionally, the carrier implemented flight optimization and fuel efficiency practices, saving 16 million kilograms of jet fuel and further reducing carbon emissions by nearly 51,000 tonnes.
On the social front, Cebu Pacific signed a collective bargaining agreement with its cabin crew union, the Juan Wing Association of the Philippines.
The airline also launched the “IncluCEB Space” program in 2023 to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in its workforce.
The report highlights several recognitions Cebu Pacific received for its sustainability efforts. These include a 3-arrow golden recognition in the Golden Arrow Awards for corporate governance, a gold rating in the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation’s (CAPA) Global Airline Sustainability Benchmarking Report, and an award from World Economic Magazine.
Cebu Pacific’s sustainability report comes as the aviation industry faces increasing pressure to address its environmental impact.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has set a goal for the global air transport industry to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
