AirAsia Indonesia announced plans to launch direct flights between Bali (Denpasar) and Cairns, Australia, starting August 14, 2024. The new route marks the airline’s first venture into Far North Queensland, with three weekly flights connecting Cairns to Bali and over 130 destinations across Southeast Asia.

To celebrate the launch, AirAsia is offering promotional fares starting from AUD$159 for flights from Cairns to Bali. The sale runs until June 16, 2024, for travel between August 14 and October 26, 2024.

“Cairns offers our guests from Bali and across Asia breathtaking scenery, including the world famous Great Barrier Reef, ancient rainforests, unique culture, delicious seafood and more,” said Veranita Yosephine, CEO of AirAsia Indonesia.

“Indonesia alone has so many emerging gems for Queenslanders to experience including the world famous Labuan Bajo (Komodo Island) – home of the Komodo Dragon, Tanjung Setia Surf-Beach in Lampung and the New Capital of Indonesia, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan,” Yosephine added.

Tourism Minister Michael Healy welcomed the expansion, stating, “The Far North remains a hot ticket for visitors who want to see just how much Queensland has to offer, and now the arrival of Indonesia AirAsia to Cairns will bring even more travellers from around the world to this incredibly beautiful region.”

Richard Barker, CEO of Cairns Airport, highlighted the route’s potential for regional connectivity.

“Importantly, this service will also open up one-stop, low fare travel to Tropical North Queensland from some of the largest nations in Southeast Asia, on an airline that is well known in those markets,” he said.

The new service is expected to inject over 28,000 seats into the Cairns market in its first year.
