Virgin Atlantic is significantly strengthening its commitment to the Indian market, announcing a second daily service from London Heathrow to Mumbai starting October 2024.
This expansion coincides with the airline’s recent launch of flights to Bengaluru, solidifying India’s position as Virgin Atlantic’s third largest market after the UK and US.
The additional Mumbai service will operate on the Airbus A350-1000, offering a range of cabin options, including Upper Class, Premium, and Economy.
The new air service will cater to both passenger and cargo demands, with an expected additional 25,000 tons of cargo capacity annually. By 2025, Virgin Atlantic will offer over one million seats to India, representing a 350% increase since 2019.
“There is a huge opportunity for us in India,” says Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Atlantic. “It has a dynamic, fast-growing economy and we’re anticipating a huge growth in demand for international travel to and from the region.”
Virgin Atlantic’s strategic partnership with IndiGo further enhances connectivity, providing passengers with 36 onward connections from key Indian hubs, including popular destinations like Ahmedabad, Goa, and Hyderabad.
The airline’s commitment to India extends beyond flight routes. In 2023, Virgin Atlantic celebrated its seventh consecutive year as Britain’s only Global Five Star Airline by APEX. Additionally, the airline prioritizes sustainability, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050 and operating a young, fuel-efficient fleet.
