China Eastern Airlines, through its subsidiary Shanghai Airlines, announced plans to inaugurate a new direct flight service between Shanghai and Marseille, France, starting July 2, 2024.
The new route will establish the first direct air corridor between the sister cities, marking a significant milestone in the 60th anniversary year of diplomatic ties between China and France.
According to the airline’s statement, the Shanghai-Marseille service will be operated with three round-trip flights per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
The flight numbers are FM-871 from Shanghai to Marseille and FM-872 for the return leg, with an estimated flight time of around 12 hours.
“This new route will offer gate-to-gate internet service for passengers aboard,” the airline stated, highlighting the convenience for travelers.
Shanghai, a vibrant and innovative city in eastern China, serves as a gateway to the Pacific Ocean and a major economic hub.
Marseille, France’s second-largest city and the biggest port in southern Europe, is an important hub for Mediterranean shipping and trade, renowned for its azure coast of Provence.
The launch of the direct flight coincides with the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism, further bolstering the cultural exchange and tourism opportunities between the two nations.
Additionally, Marseille will host sailing events for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from July 28 to August 8, making the new air connection timely for international visitors.
Tickets for the Shanghai-Marseille route are now available for purchase through China Eastern Airlines’ official website and mobile app.
