Singapore’s low-cost carrier Scoot has taken delivery of its first Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, named ‘Explorer 3.0’, from lessor Azorra. The first aircraft is registered as 9V-THA.

The delivery marks the first time a Singaporean airline is introducing a jet from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer.

A special handover ceremony was held on April 11th at Embraer’s facility in Brazil, attended by senior executives from Azorra, Scoot, and Embraer.

“We are honored to be the first Singapore carrier to take delivery of this modern and fuel-efficient aircraft and the E190-E2 jets are crucial to our overall network growth strategy,” said Leslie Thng, Chief Executive Officer of Scoot.

Scoot has ordered nine E190-E2s from Azorra as it looks to optimize expansion of existing routes and enter new markets across Asia Pacific leveraging the jet’s performance capabilities.

“It’s truly exciting to be part of this new chapter for Scoot with the addition of E2s, facilitating optimized expansion of its existing network and the development of new markets with such an efficient and versatile aircraft,” said John Evans, Azorra’s CEO.

The E190-E2 will complement Scoot’s existing narrowbody fleet of Airbus A320 family jets and Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Arjan Meijer, CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, highlighted the E2’s “exceptional short-runway performance to enhance regional connectivity.”

Scoot’s E190-E2 services are set to commence in May 2024 with the inaugural flight to Krabi, Thailand.
