Passengers faced significant delays at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on Tuesday due to an system outage affecting AirAsia Philippines’ check-in operations.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) confirmed that AirAsia’s check-in counters 22 to 41 were forced to implement manual processes after the airline’s system went offline at 2 AM.

“The absence of connectivity stemmed from AirAsia’s IT and telecommunication provider, SITA, encountering an issue with an internet service pole located outside Terminal 3,” the MIAA said in an advisory.

This disruption prevented AirAsia from conducting seamless check-in procedures until the system was restored at noon. Four AirAsia flights were delayed as a result.

To manage the situation, MIAA provided support in queue management to reduce congestion and prioritize passenger comfort during the outage.

“Despite the delays, MIAA remains committed to collaborating closely with airline operators to mitigate disruptions and maintain seamless operations moving forward,” the MIAA stated.
