The first E190F, a converted passenger jet remodeled for freight transport, successfully completed its inaugural flight on Friday in São José dos Campos (SJK).
The aircraft, registered N986TA and belonging to U.S. leasing company Regional One, underwent around two hours of flight testing by the Embraer team to evaluate its capabilities.
The converted freighter regional plane flew for the first time since its conversion in November 2023 as ENSA28. It departed from SJK at 10:20 AM (UTC-3) and landed back at 12:15 PM.
The E190F flew as part of a series of evaluations before entering commercial operation. Previous tests verified its ability to maintain pressurization and load cargo successfully, according to Embraer.
“The E-Freighter program opens a new business opportunity for Embraer, meeting e-commerce’s growing global demand for cargo transport,” stated Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer. “These jets will be important tools for our customers and allow them to work with more agile and decentralized deliveries.”
The converted E190F and E195F models provide over 50% greater volume capacity compared to the passenger versions. With three times the range of large cargo turboprops and up to 30% lower operating costs than narrowbody aircraft, the freighters aim to service e-commerce logistics efficiently.
The E190F can carry a maximum structural payload of 13,500 kg, while the E195F can transport up to 14,300 kg when utilizing space on the main deck and lower compartments.
Launched in 2022, Embraer’s E-Freighter conversion program involved a global supply network of over 40 companies and more than 600 employees dedicating over half a million work hours to the project.
Embraer, a Brazilian aerospace manufacturer, produces commercial and executive jets, defense systems, and agricultural aircraft. With over 8,000 aircraft delivered since its 1969 founding, Embraer is one of the leading makers of jets seating up to 150 passengers and a major Brazilian exporter.
