Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific has issued a stern reminder to its passengers about the strict enforcement of its prohibition on bomb threats or jokes, smoking, and vaping in all its flights.

“The safety and convenience of our passengers will always be our top priority,” the airline stated in the advisory released on April 8, 2024. “We ask for everyone’s cooperation in maintaining a smooth and secure passenger experience at the airport.”

The warning comes as Cebu Pacific aims to uphold aviation security protocols and ensure a comfortable journey for all travelers. Failure to comply with these rules may result in legal consequences for offending passengers.

“This will likewise help avoid additional safety and security checks that may cause flight delays,” the airline added, highlighting the importance of adhering to the regulations to prevent unnecessary disruptions.

Bomb threats, even in the form of jokes, are taken seriously by aviation authorities worldwide due to the potential risk they pose to aircraft and passenger safety. Similarly, smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited on flights to maintain air quality and prevent potential fire hazards.

In an article from the Philippine News Agency, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) said it has recorded a total of eight bomb joke incidents across airports in the Philippines in 2023.

As of late-January this year, the agency has already recorded at least three.

Due to the gravity of the situation, security protocols are immediately put in place once a bomb threat is received. This means that passengers need to be offloaded to a safe and secure area, as security personnel search the aircraft, airport, baggage, among other items, eventually delaying the flight.

Aviation experts and consumer advocates have long emphasized the significance of following airline policies and regulations, not only for the well-being of passengers but also for the smooth operation of the air travel industry.

Passengers are advised to familiarize themselves with the airline’s policies and cooperate with crew members to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all.
